Summary

Jessamine is an associate attorney specializing in intellectual property prosecution (IP) and contract negotiations, particularly in relation to IP rights between various entities, including companies and universities. With extensive experience advising universities on IP policies and interinstitutional agreements, Jessamine has become a trusted advisor on Bayh-Dole issues, having guided several universities and private companies through complex matters.

She has successfully managed global IP portfolios for multiple companies and has a strong track record of drafting and prosecuting patent applications across diverse fields, including food science, mechanical arts, therapeutics, immunizations, molecular biology tools, and engineered biomolecules. When not thinking about 112 and 101 issues, she is passionate about pro bono work and remains committed to contributing to causes beyond her professional responsibilities.

Prior to joining Taft, Jessamine gained valuable experience working as an intellectual property associate with a well-known regional firm in Indianapolis. Before law school, Jessamine worked as a project manager and patent agent at the Purdue Research Foundation in the Office of Technology Commercialization managing cases and technology transfer involved in the life sciences, biotechnology, and biomedical fields. She oversaw the assessment of commercial viability, marketing strategies, drafting and negotiation of license agreements, and the drafting and prosecution of intellectual property.

Jessamine earned her J.D. from the Robert H. McKinney School of Law and was a legal extern for the Hon. Grant Hawkins, Criminal Court 5, Marion County Court. She was active in the Dean’s Tutorial Society and a moot court barrister. She earned a master’s degree in bioengineering and technology and a bachelor’s degree in genetics from Purdue University.

Jessamine is also dedicated to pro bono work. She provides legal counsel to non-profits and individuals seeking expungement. In 2021, she helped secure an inmate’s compassionate release from prison after serving nearly 30 years in prison.
